The Newly Expanded Boyer-Bryan West Tower Exemplifies Williamson Health’s Unwavering Commitment To The Community

For more than six decades, Williamson Health has been central to the health of the Williamson County and Franklin, TN, community, and again and again has evolved to meet its growing needs. The opening of the newly expanded and renovated Boyer-Bryan West Tower at Williamson Medical Center in June 2024 is the latest example of the health system’s unwavering commitment to those who call this special place home.

Elevating Excellence

“We’ve been using the phrase, ‘elevating excellence,’” says Phil Mazzuca, Williamson Health CEO, “and I can’t think of better words to describe what we’ve done here.” The expansion is part of a $200 million project that touched nearly every aspect of the hospital, adding three floors to the original West Tower as well as a brand new six-floor north wing. That equates to nearly 175,000 new square feet and an additional 134 new patient beds overall.

The West Tower has been rededicated and named the Boyer-Bryan West Tower in honor of Luke and Caroline Boyer Bryan and the Brett Boyer Foundation. “The Boyer and Bryan families have been incredible ambassadors for the hospital,” says Mazzuca, “and we are grateful for their strong partnership and generous support.”

Caroline Bryan serves as a co-chair of the Williamson Health Foundation’s “More for you. Close to home.” capital campaign that helped fund the renovation and expansion project, while Luke Bryan serves as honorary co-chair of the campaign.

“We feel blessed to be part of a community that has everything we want in terms of small-town life but that also has high-quality and compassionate health care that retains a hometown feel,” says Caroline Bryan. “This is our home, and this is our home hospital.”

Luke Bryan says Williamson Medical Center has played a significant role in his family’s life. “Our children were born here,” he says, “and we’ve been in the emergency room more times than we can count. We love this hospital, its talented and compassionate staff, and everything the Williamson Health system does for our community.”

Expanding Possibilities

Vicki McNamara, chair of Williamson Health Foundation’s board of directors and co-chair of the capital campaign, says, “This has really been about continuing and expanding Williamson Health’s capacity to care for this community. We believe folks here shouldn’t have to go anywhere else to get the care they need and deserve.”

Williamson Health’s physicians are also excited about what the expansion means in terms of the care they both deliver and receive here. “I personally have delivered two babies here at Williamson,” says Dr. Carrie Lind, pediatric hospitalist and chief of pediatrics, “and I’ve also utilized the emergency department for my kids. So I know how valuable it is to have a facility like this that provides outstanding care minutes from my house.”

Creating an Exceptional Experience

The Boyer-Bryan West Tower is more than just expanded space. While every element has been designed for greater efficiency and capacity, an equal focus has been on creating family-friendly spaces that promote healing and comfort. Communication and the overall patient experience are strengthened thanks to extraordinary technology in patient rooms, and systems are integrated to make it easier for providers to collaborate to ensure seamless care for their patients.

This attention to detail is in keeping with Williamson Health’s long tradition of and commitment to patient safety and quality. For instance, the hospital’s “Kindness Matters” initiative highlights the mutual respect, compassion and teamwork that are essential to staff success and patient health. The “Quiet Nights” program helps ensure patients can have restful sleep to improve their healing and recovery and includes a reduction in noise levels, lighting and in-room interruptions during the overnight hours.

Key Features of the Boyer-Bryan West Tower Expansion

The recent expansion includes 134 new beds and enhances Williamson Health’s ability to meet the needs of its growing community. Here are some of the ways the hospital is elevating excellence thanks to its campaign, “More for you. Close to home.”

• Added a 35-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a large public waiting area.
• Added 94 medical-surgical inpatient rooms.
• Developed 33 modern and spacious obstetrics rooms in a fully renovated and expanded unit, plus an additional C-section room and a spacious well-baby nursery.
• Added a more modern and spacious Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

• Expanded the Emergency Department from 28 to 43 beds, including a new adult entrance, expanded waiting room with private stations, two new triage rooms, 10 new exam rooms and a private family gathering room.
• Constructed a new Cardiac Center to house the hospital’s award-winning care, which includes two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs and a brand-new electrophysiology lab with pre- and post-procedure areas.
