How many rooms are featured in the new unit?
With the new addition to our unit, we have a total of 17 postpartum rooms to go with 16 labor and delivery rooms. To compliment these rooms, we’re also proud to feature three C-section operating rooms, a triage room for our expecting moms, and a newly expanded and renovated Level II NICU (to be completed later this fall) that includes 9 private bays for more comfort and privacy for families.
Can you tell us about the new room features?
Each room features new Linet hospital beds that provide a comfortable space for moms. Additionally, each room has a pull out bed for their support person and features a spacious floor plan that allows maximum comfort for visitors. Finally, each of our rooms have a private bathroom for you and your invited guests.
What new technology is incorporated into the new unit?
All new rooms in our unit have 55” flat screen TVs with Google Chromecast available at the patient’s fingertips. Partnering with SONIFI to provide first-class guest entertainment technology, televisions also provide white noise, music, relaxation channels, and on-demand movies and shows. While entertainment is paramount, the televisions also serve as a hub for care team information, as well as discharge education videos for families to view on their own time at their own pace before going home.
What are some aspects of the new unit that parents will love?
Our new unit was designed by a diverse team of women — ranging from construction personnel and designers to administrators, fundraisers and medical staff — who helped bring the hospital’s new postpartum unit to life. While the women shaped each stage of the historic renovation and expansion project at WMC, the updates to the OB department were a labor of love as the women worked on behalf of fellow women. With that in mind, in addition to the technology included, the spacious rooms feature aesthetics that are visually pleasing with everything from design to color selections taken into consideration to provide a space that promotes healing and recovery.
What new aspects of the unit will be beneficial to the new babies being born there?
Featuring a remodeled Level II NICU as part of the project (to be completed later this fall), we’re well-equipped for a variety of medical scenarios that could arise.
In addition to the NICU, we also have a well-baby nursery. We understand that mom’s recovery is just as important as their newborn’s, and we offer our nursery so they can rest quietly while nurses watch over their baby.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about the new unit?
Every Sunday at 2 p.m., expecting families are welcome to join us at Williamson Medical Center and tour the space for themselves with our staff nurses. This is a great time to see the facility first-hand, meet some of our team that you’d see when it comes time to deliver, and ask any questions that might arise throughout the process.
