How Williamson Health Empowers Women During Women’s Health Month
Published: May 8, 2025
Women play a vital role in their families’ healthcare decisions, making about 80% of all household healthcare choices, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Sometimes, though, women can overlook their own needs while they’re taking care of everyone else.
“We are proud to support women in our community and the surrounding region with exceptional care for every aspect of their lives,” said Michele Simpson, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Williamson Health. “From routine screenings to bringing a baby into the world to treating serious conditions, we seek to provide exceptional care for every aspect of a woman’s life.”
The healthcare system was recently recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Women’s Services, Mammogram Imaging, Obstetrics, Heart Care and Minimally Invasive Surgery by the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. It was also recognized as one of Newsweek’s America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2025.
Here’s how Williamson Health is making it easy for women to take care of themselves:
Primary Care
“Regular visits to your primary care physician, especially as women age, is incredibly important,” Simpson said. Regular visits help physicians monitor important health indicators such as blood pressure, heart rate, and weight as well as manage chronic conditions. More than two dozen primary care providers call Williamson Health Medical Group home, providing quality care throughout the county. To find a primary care provider convenient to you, click here.
Obstetrics and Gynecology
For women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy, Williamson Medical Center is home to nationally recognized obstetrics (OB) and neonatal intensive care (NICU) as well as maternal care from a compassionate and talented team of caregivers. Recent enhancements to the OB unit include beautiful, more spacious new rooms for Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Recovery, and our brand new NICU opened in December 2024. Expecting parents are welcome to tour our facility every Sunday at 2 p.m. with tours beginning in the lobby of the Boyer-Bryan West Tower. To view a virtual tour of our OB and NICU, click here.
Our two OB/GYN practices, Vanderbilt Franklin Women’s Center and Women’s Group of Franklin, also help keep women healthy, offering important annual screenings, such as cervical cancer screenings, and routine obstetrics and gynecological care.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Joining Williamson Health Medical Group in 2024 as its latest addition to its growing list of specialties, Williamson Health’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists provide comprehensive care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies.
A high-risk pregnancy is one that requires special care because of a problem with the pregnancy itself, a preexisting maternal health condition or a fetal birth defect or complication. Williamson Health’s maternal-fetal medicine specialists — who are board-certified in both maternal-fetal medicine and obstetrics-gynecology — offer a range of high-risk pregnancy services to craft a personalized plan of care for high-risk mothers before and during pregnancy and delivery. Collaborating via referrals from a patient’s pre-existing care team, the maternal-fetal medicine specialists at Williamson Health Medical Group work with women prior to and during pregnancy to monitor various conditions, even if they are not planning to deliver at Williamson Medical Center. Beyond pregnancy, we also provide advanced ultrasound imaging for gynecologic conditions, supporting comprehensive women’s health at every stage. “At Williamson Health Urogynecology and Pelvic Health, our providers truly seek to meet patients where they are and find the best treatment plan for each person,” Simpson said. “No matter what pelvic issue you’re dealing with, they seek to listen and explore all of the options available to find the one that works best for your life.”
