Williamson Health Implements New Automated Laboratory Track System
Published: April 16, 2026
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (April 7, 2026) – Williamson Health recently announced a significant addition to the healthcare system’s laboratory services with the installation of a new, state-of-the-art automated laboratory track system. This investment reflects Williamson Health’s continued commitment to advancing its technological capabilities and elevating the level of care provided across the organization. The platform enables diagnostic instruments from multiple laboratory departments to operate seamlessly on a single, integrated track, transforming how vital patient information is processed for both inpatient and outpatient care. By enhancing efficiency, reducing turnaround times and improving diagnostic accuracy, the technology further strengthens the organization’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
“This new system reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our community,” said Patti Walton, Associate Administrator for Operations and Laboratory Director at Williamson Health. “In healthcare, efficiency is one way we demonstrate empathy. By investing in this infrastructure, we’re helping reduce the time patients spend waiting for answers, while also supporting the continued growth of our laboratory. Ultimately, our goal is simple: to deliver the information patients need as quickly and thoughtfully as possible, so they can move forward with confidence.”
With a series of automated tracks and specialized processing cabinets spanning roughly the size of a small house, the impressive system enables lab scientists to collect, sort and process samples with the utmost efficiency and certainty, providing reliable results to patients waiting for answers.
“In the lab, we often say that every tube of blood is a person waiting for answers,” said Walton. “The new system isn’t just running tests; it’s providing standardization, reliability and optimization of workflows. It allows us to be the silent, reliable backbone of every diagnosis made in this building.”
The machine organizes samples based on need, a task that previously required manual intervention. Using barcode identification, the automated system sorts blood samples quickly and accurately, prioritizing those with emergency labels ahead of routine checkup samples. It operates like a smart road that clears a path for an ambulance. This “express lane” ensures that life-saving data reaches physicians faster than ever before.
“In the ER, minutes aren’t just time – they are outcomes,” Walton explained. “Our new automation knows which tube is the ‘ambulance’ and pulls it to the front automatically. It’s a partnership between machine efficiency and the brilliance of our lab scientists.”
The installation of the new automated laboratory track system took nearly a year and was a collaborative effort involving multiple Williamson Health team members across various departments. Their unwavering dedication and countless hours of work resulted in a streamlined process that enables providers to deliver timely diagnoses and high-quality care that improve patient outcomes across the healthcare system.
