Athletic Training
Keeping Student-Athletes Healthy and Safe
You hear the band playing, coaches are pumping up student-athletes, and fans are filing into the stands. It can only mean one thing: It's game time in Williamson County.
Thanks to a collaboration between Williamson Health, Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee and Williamson County Schools, we're proud to provide dedicated athletic trainers to care for student-athletes competing at high levels across the county. Responsible for the care of student-athletes in all sports from football to cross country and basketball to lacrosse, our teams work together daily to ensure athletes achieve success on and off the field of play.
NOTE: Athletic trainers at Williamson Health are dedicated to serving student-athletes at the schools they work with and do not see patients by appointment. Individuals in need of a consultation regarding a sports medicine injury are encouraged to make an appointment with a Bone and Joint Institute physician, visit a Bone and Joint Institute Orthopaedic Urgent Care Clinic, or visit a Vanderbilt Health and Williamson Medical Center Walk-In Clinic. If the injury presents as an emergency, individuals should call 911 and/or visit the Emergency Room at Williamson Medical Center.
About Our Athletic Training Program
As part of the collaboration, full-time certified athletic trainers provide year-round care to student-athletes at all nine public Williamson County Schools competing in athletics at no cost to the school or participating families. These professionals are employed and trained by Williamson Health and serve as part of medical teams that also consist of a dedicated team physician from Bone and Joint Institute and EMS personnel at home competitions from Williamson Health to provide comprehensive care for participating athletes.
Athletic trainers from Williamson Health serve their respective school and its student-athletes, meaning they do not see patients on a day-to-day basis but are present every day at team practices, competition and activities. Their responsibilities are wide-ranging, including helping guide student-athletes through injury prevention, examination and diagnosis of an injury, treatment programs, rehabilitation of injuries and follow-up care after an injury takes place, among so much more. Should the need arise, the athletic training team also has direct access to consultation with Bone and Joint Institute's orthopaedic physicians and Williamson Health's wide range of specialists. With organized communication day in and day out, athletic trainers collaborate on return-to-play protocols for injured student-athletes to ensure the best and safest pathway forward to successful careers.
